FIRST DATE(S) is a graphic memoir about Dajia, a cartoonist searching for connection in a world of modern dating.
Long single and turning to dating apps, she begins meeting potential matches in person. But as one match after another falls short of her hopes, Dajia’s loneliness deepens, and she begins to wonder: What does fall in love really feel like? What does a real spark feel like? Could intimacy simply not be for her? Through a series of awkward, funny, and heartfelt encounters, Dajia gradually gains a deeper understanding of herself and uncovers the truths about her heart and identity.
With vulnerability, humor, and striking visual storytelling, this project explores the emotional terrain of self-discovery—and what it means to truly connect with another person.
